Colombia: The End of Total Peace
Colombia: The End of Total Peace

Dragonfly is pleased to invite you to a briefing on the political and security outlook for Colombia ahead of the May 2026 presidential election.
This will take place on Thursday, 11 September at 1500hrs London / 1600hrs Paris / 1000hrs New York / 0900hrs Bogota.
Several recent incidents of violence have resurfaced concerns about Colombia’s political and security outlook. In the most high-profile case, a senator and presidential election hopeful was shot in June and died from his injuries last month. President Gustavo Petro took office in 2022, vowing to resolve the country’s decades-long armed conflict with guerrilla and paramilitary groups. With less than a year left in his term, many Colombians accuse him instead of presiding over a dramatic worsening in security, and straining relations with the US, Bogota’s primary security partner.
In this briefing, we will cover:
- The threat that armed and organised crime groups are likely to pose before and after the 2026 election
- The probable make-up and policies of the next Colombian governmentÂ
- An outlook for relations between Colombia, the US and Venezuela
The briefing will include an opportunity for you to pose questions to our panel.
