It has been nearly three months since Hamas militants breached the Gaza border into southern Israel, killing at least 1,200 Israelis. The 7 October attack prompted an intense conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, killing at least 15,000 Palestinians so far. Israel is now seemingly expanding its operations to southern Gaza since fighting resumed after a brief pause and the hostage exchange ended last week. Israel’s stated objective to destroy Hamas, and thereby prolong the conflict, is very likely to sustain security risks across the region, especially in Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, and the Red Sea.
